OLLU CARES Act Emergency Funds

OLLU received approximately $1 million through the CARES Act Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) that is designated for emergency grants for our students.

The university will be distributing $400 to every eligible full-time student and $200 to every eligible part-time student who was enrolled during the spring 2020 semester. Both undergraduate and graduate students may be eligible. A second distribution of funds is planned for the fall semester to eligible returning students.

OLLU students who are not eligible for CARES Act funds but need assistance can submit an application to the OLLU Caritas Student Emergency Fund. This fund is made possible through gifts from generous donors.

Select from the options below to apply for funds. The deadline to submit the CARES Act Fund application is July 1, 2020.

 Additional Eligibility Information

The U.S. Department of Education provided the following eligibility guidelines:

  • Only students who are or could be eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act (HEA) of 1965, as amended, may receive emergency relief funds. If a student has filed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), then the student has demonstrated eligibility to participate in programs under Section 484 of the HEA. Students who have not filed a FAFSA but who are eligible to file a FAFSA also may receive emergency relief funds. The criteria to participate in programs under Section 484 of the HEA include but are not limited to the following: U.S. citizenship or eligible noncitizen; a valid Social Security number; registration with Selective Service (if the student is male); and a high school diploma, GED, or completion of high school in an approved homeschool setting.
  • UPDATED: Students must have been enrolled in spring 2020 to be eligible. Students who were enrolled in exclusively online programs on and before March 13, 2020, are not eligible for CARES Act funds. Online students are eligible to apply for assistance through OLLU Caritas Student Emergency Fund .
  • The emergency financial aid funds are for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus.
Please note: While the federal government does not allow CARES Act funds to be distributed to students with DACA status or others who are ineligible under the HEA, OLLU is committed to assisting all our students who are dealing with emergency needs. We have received donations that we are using to help students who apply for assistance through the OLLU Caritas Student Emergency Fund .
