Teaching Philosophy

My dedication to student-centered education is evidenced in empowering students to become socially responsible, autonomous thinkers by stressing their individual role and responsibility in collective discourse. I exercise transparency in teaching and learning through contextualization, meaningful assessments tied to course objectives, skill set and grading criteria delineation, and competency building over time through intentional sequence. Within a context of social learning that includes group projects, problem-based activities, simulations, service learning, and group discussions, I position myself as co-learner and facilitator. Doing so prompts students to reflect on their own learning experiences, recognizing the necessity of diverse voices in transformative learning, and taking responsibility for their own learning through student-driven exploration. An education founded in the liberal arts tradition and enhanced by discovery through early research involvement crafts students into autonomous thinkers with the skill set to impact the world beyond the classroom.

Outside Interests

I have a passion for black and grey tattoos, Muay Thai, and Krav Maga.  You'll usually find me training in the gym. I'm also very involved in non-profit work serving survivors of intimate partner violence and sexual assault.
