Curriculum Vitae

Areas of Expertise

Strength-based theories, live supervision, immigration evaluations, brief therapy, and incorporating hope and expectancy in working with clients are among my areas of expertise. I also enjoy mentoring students to be culturally curious and respectful with our clients. I am passionate about Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and many social justice issues.

Teaching Philosophy

I want to teach students critical thinking and to "think outside the box." My approach in my classrooms is to stimulate conversation and talk with my students and not at my students. I love helping students embrace new ideas and concepts. I love when students teach me something from their perspective I had never considered. I believe we have the best training model because of our live supervision of the students as they work. I love that cases we see in the clinic can be brought into the classroom so that it provides a powerful example for the students as they learn. It is humbling to see a student when they first enter the program and see how they have grown personally and professionally when they leave. I know we have the best students as well!

Outside Interests

I love working with people with immigration issues. I am honored to help people fleeing violence or fighting to keep families together here when a member of the family is undocumented. I am honored to do pro bono work with RAICES, the Migrant Center, Young Advocate Center, St. Mary’s Law School and the University of Texas at Austin to name a few. I am honored to mentor our students to graduate and do this work. I have evaluated people from all over the world. I am honored and humbled that I can do this work.
