Career Advisement/Counseling
The director, as well as graduate practicum students, are available to meet with students and alumni to assist them with a wide variety of issues related to career planning and the job search. Such issues may include assistance with a resume/cover letter, gaining information about job search techniques or interview skills, or perhaps more personal issues such as being laid off or meeting familial expectations. If you would like to meet individually to discuss these or other issues, you may call or come by the office to schedule an appointment. Appointments may be scheduled during the week or during our weekend hours.

Interview Practice
If you would like assistance with your interview skills, schedule an appointment for a mock interview. You have the option of having this interview videotaped so that you can observe first hand, how you employers may perceive you. Perhaps there is a more appropriate way of responding to particular questions or perhaps you are avoiding eye contact or fidgeting. Staff will assist you so that you will feel confident walking into an interview setting.

At various times throughout the year, Career Services sponsors workshops on a variety of topics related to career development and the job search. Workshops presented include job fair preparation, business etiquette, undecided majors, resume writing, interview skills, and job search techniques. To find out about upcoming workshops, view the events calendar.

Mentor Program
In partnership with the Lake's Alumni Office, Career Services provides an opportunity for students to be matched with alumni and employer representatives to gain knowledge about various career fields. Such opportunities include:
Mentor Program- students are paired with a mentor who has committed to meet with the student once a week, over a semester. This may include a shadowing opportunity where the student is able to accompany the mentor to their place of employment to observe a typical day at work.

Shadowing Program
Students may prefer an opportunity, requiring less commitment, such as the shadowing program. Students may select to meet once with a mentor for an interview. This is an opportunity to ask a professional in the field specific questions about their work. This may take place at the mentor's place of business.

Guest Speakers
At times, students will be able to take advantage of workshops or discussion panels, covering various careers, provided by professionals in the field who have voluteered to come to campus to speak.

Students may register for a mentoring opportunity by registering with Experience. For more information, contact Career Services.
