RIGHT FOOT WEEK 2012 EVENTS

During the first week of classes, Right Foot Week helps students get the academic year started on the right foot. Take part in a special welcoming ceremony; laugh, eat and dance at entertainment events; learn about on-campus services offered at the library and student success center; cheer for the University's sports teams; and learn how to get involved in OLLU's student organizations.

Navigate the exciting college journey! Incoming freshmen should stop by the Student Leadership and Development Office to obtain applications to participate in the L.I.F.E. leadership program. The fall semester program provides a leadership training session, overnight off-campus retreat and connection with an upper-class mentor. Program links participants to campus involvement opportunities and assists with college transition issues. Applications are due on Friday, Sept. 7.

Let us officially welcome you to OLLU! Join the University community for the Providence Assembly that will welcome all new and returning students and highlight major initiatives for OLLU. New students will be officially commissioned into the OLLU family with a special ceremony.

Is there a chance you might ask God to help you sometime this year? If so, then how about giving God back a few minutes of your time in return? There will be a short Mass held on the second floor of the Walter Center to get you started off on “the right foot!”


Mission and Ministry Division Open House: Understanding Sr. Isabel’s Way, 2:30-5:30 p.m., Elliott House

Stop by Elliott House to meet the OLLU legend for whom the campus street, “Sr. Isabel’s Way” was named, to experience the radical hospitality of the Division of Mission and Ministry and to enjoy delicious home-baked desserts.

Tour the library at your leisure. Get out of the heat and into the Sueltenfuss Library: your oasis of knowledge. In this self-guided tour, meet the library staff and discover all of the resources the library has to offer. The library staff will show you tools for academic success and more. Attendees may enter a special drawing at the end of the tour.


OLLU Saints Cross-Country Meet beginning at 7 a.m. sponsored by Trinity University at Olmos Basin Park

Gather your friends and take a trip to the north side to cheer on the Saints runners!!

Students will be introduced to Lake Online and its features. Best practices will be discussed as well as tips for success.


Like to IM…how about Blackboard Collaborate IM!, 1-2 p.m., TLTC

The presentation will explain the process for creating a Blackboard IM account. We will also go over the features and functions of Blackboard IM. In addition, a practice chat/video session will be conducted.

Students will be introduced to Lake Online and its features. Best practices will be discussed as well as tips for success.


Presenting the easy way with Wimba!, 1-2 p.m., TLTC

We will identify the steps for creating a live classroom. This training will consist of analyzing the properties and settings. A practice session will also be conducted.

Sunday Alamo and San Antonio Mission Excursion, 9 a.m. Call University Ministry at x 2186 to sign-up

University Minister, Mario Serrano, will lead a guided tour of the Alamo and some of the other 18th century missions along the San Antonio River. As the Apache raided from the north, deadly diseases traveled from Mexico and drought lingered. Human survival lay in these missions established by the Spanish Church. See the origins of this new religion (Catholicism) through conversion of the native populations. It was the start of a true “mission possible.”


Opening Sunday Evening University Liturgy, 7 p.m., Sacred Heart Chapel

Become part of our OLLU Sunday Mass tradition. Newcomers and returning members of our OLLU community will gather in our beautiful Sacred Heart Chapel for our first Sunday Night Mass (worship service). Everyone at OLLU is welcome. Come even if you were not raised Catholic or did not grow up in a religious household! Paleta Ice Cream Reception to follow the service.

Each of the student organization’s representatives and advisors will gain the knowledge of event planning, university policies and RSO and CSO resources. We encourage each student organization to be in attendance!
