OLLU alumni spotlights:
Judge Carol Haberman Knight-Sheen, (MSW 1964), was the first female district judge in Bexar County and served as a city council member.
Dr. Marga Speicher, (MSW 1959), is the founder of the Jung Clinic and was voted “Best Clinical Faculty for 2001-2002” by the residents in the Department of Psychiatry at University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio (UTHSCSA). Dr. Speicher is a clinical associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UTHSCSA and works in private practice of psychotherapy and Jungian psychoanalysis.
Ciro Rodriguez, (MSW 1978), is a U.S. Congressman who represents the 23rd Congressional District, Texas. He serves on the House Committee on Appropriations where he sits on the Homeland Security and Transportation, Housing and Urban Development and Related Agencies Subcommittees. He also serves on the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs in the Subcommittees on Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs and Oversight and Investigations.
Elena Guajardo (MSW 2000) is a former San Antonio District 7 City Councilwoman and retired Southwestern Bell director. She brought her unique combination of experiences in small business, corporate America, the non-profit sector and training as a social worker to City Council. During her tenure, she received the National Association of Social Workers Elected Official of the Year award and the Sierra Club recognized her with their Environmental Excellence Award. Today, Guajardo serves on the Board of the League of Women Voters and CAMP. In addition, she sits on the Police Training and Career Development Advisory Committee, coordinating community and political fundraisers.
