Nicole Provencher, MA
MA, English – English Language and Literature, 2007
BA, English (Philosophy minor), 2005

Currently a doctoral student, Nicole’s time at OLLU as an undergraduate and graduate student was productive and eye opening. With encouragement from her professors, she submitted poetry and prose and was published; she attended regional and national conferences and taught in a variety of environments. This experience led her on the path she is currently on in her professional career and life. Nicole is working on her PhD with a focus on rhetoric and composition.

Nicole recently learned that she will spend the summer of 2010 as a Smithsonian Graduate Fellow at the National Museum of American History. She will work in the archives to complete research for her dissertation project: "Ideology and Illustration: Graphic Constructions of Gender and Race in American Caricature, Cartooning, and Comic Illustrations, 1920 to Present."

“I feel that OLLU gave me the general preparation that I needed in order to continue my education at the PhD level,” Nicole said. “The supportive faculty helped me to grow and learn in an environment where I felt I had the ability to try out new situations (for example, my first conference) and make mistakes. The faculty was with me every step of the way from my first classroom project to my applications for graduate school. My success is due largely to the faculty at OLLU.”
