MASTER OF EDUCATION IN SCHOOL COUNSELING ONLINE
SCHOOL OF PROFESSIONAL STUDIES

An historic commitment to education with a modern format

Living up to the mission of its founders, the Sisters of Divine Providence, to provide educational opportunities to those with limited access, Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) is now offering the Master of Education (MEd) with a specialization in School Counseling in an online format. This program is ideal for those Texas educators who live in small towns or in remote areas of our state. The friendly online format accommodates those educators with a busy and demanding lifestyle.

Offered through the Department of Education in the School of Professional Studies, the Master of Education with a specialization in School Counseling prepares students for school counseling certification through the State of Texas. It is designed to meet the needs of Texas educators wishing to enter the school counseling field. Course work, practicum and internship experiences are integrated to enhance personal and professional growth while in the program. Students completing the program will be recommended to sit for the certification examination.

What do school counselors do?
School counselors are professional educators trained to provide a systematic, planned approach for helping all students acquire skills necessary for successful academic, career, social and emotional development.

Professional school counselors advocate and care for students, and are important members of the educational team. They consult and collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to help all students be successful academically, vocationally, and personally. Professional school counselors positively impact the futures of students on a daily basis.  School counselors are on the front lines of helping all young people succeed.

The online Master of Education with a specialization in School Counseling provides the academic foundation for the Texas Professional School Counselor certification. Graduates of this program meet the academic requirements of licensure as LPC in the State of Texas.
