Postbaccalaureate Leveling Program
Do you offer visits to the department?
An Open House is offered each semester if you wish to visit and tour our department. Individual visits are not recommended unless you are visiting from out of state due to the heavy load our faculty have with teaching, research, advising and scheduled meetings. We encourage you to plan to join us at an Open House. Dates will be posted on the website.
I do not have an undergraduate degree in communication disorders. Can I apply directly to the graduate program?
No, you need to apply to the post baccalaureate leveling program and take undergraduate courses in communication disorders for one year. You may apply to the graduate program while enrolled in the leveling program (Click Here for More Information on the Leveling Program).
What semesters do you accept new graduate students?
We accept applications for the Fall semester ONLY. However in exceptional circumstances students who have taken the Fall courses elsewhere may enroll in the Spring.
When do I apply for the CSD leveling program?
The deadline date is April 1st.
Where do I submit my application materials and transcripts?
All application materials are submitted to the Admissions Office who will forward the folders to the Dept when they are complete.
Will taking the leveling program at OLLU increase my chances of being accepted into the graduate program?
Acceptance into our graduate program is highly competitive. Being in the leveling program will not increase your chances of being accepted but it is likely that your references will be provided by the professors who teach you in these courses. In addition you will be more familiar with the program, department, professors and the expectations of faculty.
Should I take the GRE while I am in the leveling program?
Yes, you are encouraged to take the GRE or Millers Analogies depending on the graduate program(s) to which you are applying. We suggest you apply to at least 3 schools.
How does the department determine which applicants are admitted to the leveling program?
We consider all applications carefully. Applicants should have a 3.0 GPA from their undergraduate degree or their master’s degree if they have a higher level degree.
When will I find out if I have been admitted to the leveling program?
Decisions are typically announced late April or early May by email and letter. It is in your best interest use a personal email account instead of a school account and an address where you can receive correspondence even after you graduate from your current school.
Once I am accepted how do I register for Fall courses?
The Office of Admissions will arrange for you to come to campus during an orientation and you will be advised by faculty from our Department.
Whom can I contact for additional information about the undergraduate program?
Cynthia A. Davila, Administrative Assistant, Communication & Learning Disorders (CDIS) Department, at 210-431-3938 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
