Students also have the opportunity to join the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA). The association, sponsored by the Communication Disorders Department, strives to build a closer affiliation between students and professionals in the field of communication disorders.
NSSLHA ACTIVITIES
The NSSHLA
students began the year by participating in Club Rush and Spirit Day.
They followed this by walking in the annual San Antonio Walk to D’Feet
ALS where they helped to raise funds for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.
Additionaly, NSSHLA hosted April Smith, Vice-President of TSHA, who
visited our campus and spoke to NSSHLA members about the role and
benefits of TSHA. NSSHLA students provided community and university
service by helping out with refreshments and arrangements for the
Biannual Carrow-Woolfolk Lecture. They also organized a major
fund-raiser for the year by selling t-shirts to members and non-members.
The co-sponsors for the year are Dr. Christine Carmichael and Dr. M.
Ruth Fernandez.
