The Fire at OLLU
by Josh T. Franco

The most stable things went up in flames.

I went cold,

Ice shocked numb,

Without noticing.

Others scrambled in;

I stayed out,

Made coping cookies.

Lumpy, collapsed towerlets of

Oats and chocolate.

Burned the first two batches.

The third is almost good enough to send for Mother’s Day.

Baked prayers to La Virgen.

She still stands to receive them.
