Leadership Institute for Freshmen Excellence
"Dedicated to the Advancement of Freshmen Leadership"

What is LIFE?
The Leadership Institute for Freshmen Excellence (LIFE) is a leadership initiative program conducted during the fall semester. The program is open to all freshman students interested in exploring their personal potential and actively participating in the University’s unique campus community. LIFE consists of interactive workshops and sessions on topics such as leadership styles, roommate conflicts, human diversity, and communication styles.

Four First Year Connection Executive Leaders (FYCELs) coordinate the LIFE program. The FYCEL duties are to insure that the operation of the program runs smoothly. The FYCEL’s job is to coordinate each session, retreat, and have all activities ready. They are also responsible for Mentor and Mentee relations. They make sure that the Mentors are doing their jobs to provide the best LIFE experience for members.

Join LIFE!
Applicants for the LIFE program can apply in the beginning of the fall semester. Applications will be available in the Office of Student Leadership and Development in UWAC 101. There will be a selection and interview process and applicants will be notified if they were admitted into the program.
