History Department begins new Bachelor of Arts concentration in Integrated Digital and Public History

The study of history deepens understanding of the cultural trends and geopolitical forces that make up today's interconnected society.

Our Lady of the Lake University's History Department now offers a Bachelor of Arts in History with an integrated digital and public history concentration. The program incorporates course content with new information technology tools to show students how to prepare content for diverse audiences. The program will continue to provide students with a broad view of the human experience as it hones their critical analysis, writing and oral communication skills.

The integration of digital and public history will allow all students, including those who take general education history courses, to utilize the resources on campus such as the University Archives, the Sister Elizabeth Ann Sueltenfuss Library Special Collections, the Congregation of Divine Providence Archives and the Center for Mexican American Studies and Research collections for research projects.

Digital and public history are new methods for communicating historical research in venues such as archives, museums, historical societies, and for local, state and federal agencies. History majors are capable of gathering, analyzing and interpreting evidence; they are able to construct arguments, study change over time, and communicate orally and in writing. Students who pursue this concentration will leave prepared for the increasingly global and digital world.

A history degree equips graduates for advanced study in history, political science, English, business, law and more. A history graduate is prepared for employment in any industry that values a broad knowledge base about the world and how societies work, strong research, writing and communication skills, and an inquisitive mind open to new ideas.
