Our Lady of the Lake University’s academic programs in business provide students with the entry-level skills needed for career opportunities in various business, nonprofit organizations and government agencies. Students will acquire a strong academic foundation in the functional areas of business as well as gain practical skills through internships, field experiences and case studies. Participation in organizations aimed at specific business disciplines and frequent contacts with local business executives enrich the classroom experience.

All of the business programs qualify for OLLU’s Biliterate Certificate, which will enable students to work professionally in English or Spanish.

Concentrations Offered

Although the core curriculum for the degree includes courses from across the business department, students will customize their Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree by choosing one of the following concentrations:

This concentration prepares students to work as accountants and auditors in almost any industry. Upon graduation, students can seek certification as a Certified Internal Auditor or Certified Financial Planner.

The CISS concentration emphasizes the business aspects of computer information systems and security and prepares students to serve in a liaison role between information technology and the other business functions of an organization.

This concentration provides students with entry-level expertise in several areas of applied economics, which includes international trade, industrial organization, money and banking, financial institutions, econometrics, public finance and a variety of other fields. Students studying economics often pursue careers in industries such as banking, finance, management, health care, private consulting and international development

BBA Economics degree plan and course descriptions

This concentration is perfect for students who are interested in careers related to finance, investments and banking. This degree prepares students to work for a wide spectrum of financial institutions and markets.

This concentration allows students to create their own business-focused degree that draws upon courses from different disciplines. This provides students with the option to pursue a degree that falls outside of the traditional BBA concentrations available while tailoring their degree to align with their career aspirations after college.

A degree in management prepares students for the important task of getting work accomplished through collaborative efforts with others in an organization. Students with a degree in management may expect to coordinate service and manufacturing operations, manage product/service development in a project environment, or even manage their own business.

This concentration gives students the foundation to excel in a variety of industries. The program is designed to prepare students to enter and/or enhance their market knowledge to become successful managers, designers, consultants and entrepreneurs in advertising, brand management, market research, sales, and public relations in nonprofit organizations, for-profit companies and higher education institutions. The degree emphasizes international global and interdisciplinary factors affecting successful marketing techniques, planning and campaigning.

The minor in accounting is designed for any student to become more knowledgeable about accounting and learn why accounting is called the “language of business”. Accounting complements and strengthens all major fields of study. Adding accounting knowledge to your degree can enhance your marketability.

A business minor is available that pairs well with many of the majors offered at OLLU. Students take core business courses and then select electives from the business concentration of their choice.

The finance minor is designed for any student who wishes to understand terminology, theory, and models in finance. Students will learn to apply analytical methods and acquire critical thinking skills to make financial decisions that, when combined with a major in another field, can be applied in a variety of businesses and organizations.

A marketing minor complements and strengthens all major fields of study.  Adding marketing to your degree can enhance your marketability and skills in any field, whether it be working on marketing for a profit or non-profit institution.

Service-Learning Opportunities

Service-learning opportunities have been integrated into several courses in the business curriculum. Through these courses, students have a chance to apply what they have learned in class to a community service project. Recent projects have included creating marketing plans for nonprofit organizations, hosting financial literacy seminars and creating a community service outreach program.
