Curriculum Vitae

Areas of Expertise

I hold a CPA license in two states: Texas and Maryland. I specialize in Tax: Individual, Sch C, Corporate, and Estate taxes. I also have extensive fraud and forensic accounting experience as well as financial accounting and auditing knowledge. I also have an undergraduate degree in legal studies and graduate hours. I am currently pursuing the Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) certification that will be helpful in several upper level graduate classes.

Teaching Philosophy

Overtime, my teaching philosophy has evolved due to updated curriculum models being used, advances in technology for testing and homework deployment, and, most importantly, student needs. The student I encountered when I began teaching in a university environment back in 2000 varies tremendously from the student of 2023. First, the 2023 student comes to a university environment less prepared in terms of writing ability, lacking critical thinking skills, and in taking the research, reading, and homework requirements seriously. Students want the professor to give them the answer at the outset and to curve grades as a given. Frankly, no true learning can occur with these parameters. I have them consider how education, taken seriously, is a key to social and economic mobility. For students attending a historically Hispanic, first generation university, offering the keys to social and economic mobility are serious enticements. One must evolve over time to meet today's educational challenges.

Outside Interests

I participate in local, state, and national political activities. I also enjoy baking, cake decorating, and antique hunting.
