For me teaching is about asking questions. I want students to leave my classroom not only with new knowledge, but, more importantly, with a new way of looking at the world. The highest compliment I can receive from a student is “you really made me think.” I love the experience of getting students to think a little deeper or a little differently than they have before, and I want them to enjoy the experience as well. My favorite classes have been those where there was a real sense of comfort and community in the classroom, where students felt at ease and willing to share with both me and their classmates. This sort of environment is key to really achieve the deep and lasting learning I promote. Thus, I strive to create that sense of community in every class I teach.
