THE PLANNING PROCESS

The approach used to develop the Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) strategic plan was based on the Kaplan and Norton Balanced Score Card model. Input to the plan was obtained from a variety of stakeholders across the university and considerable data was evaluated from internal and external sources. Decisions were made based on the evidence collected, analyzed and discussed. Multiple venues for participation were used:

THE STRATEGIC THINKING AND PLANNING COMMITTEE:
The Strategic Thinking and Planning Committee (STPC) was appointed by former President Tessa Martinez Pollack and composed of representatives from components of the university. The STPC established three sub teams: the Leadership Team, the Core Team and the Analytics Team. These teams worked with strategic planning consultant Dr. Ed Roach, who provided pro bono services to help facilitate and guide the development of the plan.

STRATEGIC PLANNING MEETINGS: A series of more than 15 meetings was conducted by the planning committees to gather information from faculty, staff, students, alumni and members of the Board of Trustees.

STRATEGIC THINKING AND PLANNING COMMITTEE WEBPAGE:
Materials related to the strategic planning process were made available to the OLLU community through an intranet webpage. The webpage was also used to conduct surveys and encourage submission of comments, insights and opinions. The foundation for all planning was the University’s Mission, Vision and Core Values.
