Featured headliner Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni is an award-winning author and poet, whose work often centers on the immigrant experience of women. Divakaruni is the author of 15 books and has been published in more than 50 magazines.
Currently, Divakaruni is the Betty and Gene McDavid Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Houston.

Her most recent novel, One Amazing Thing (2010), deals with the precarious situation of nine people inside an Indian visa office who get thrown together after an earthquake. The book has been called "a fable for our time." Click to read more about the book and see praise from critics.

Divakaruni's first collection of short stories, Arranged Marriage (1995), follows the lives of women from India who are caught between two worlds. The collection won an American Book Award in 1996 from the Before Columbus Foundation.

This semester, OLLU English students are reading Divakaruni's The Unknown Errors of Our Lives (2001), a book of stories set in India and America about the weighty decisions characters must make at different stages of their lives.
