Biography:
Dr. Thompson started working at Our Lady of the Lake University in 2009 as assistant professor. Prior to that, she was a distance education lecturer at the University College of Social Work, where she was responsible for teaching courses to regular and advanced standing graduate students.  From 1999-2008, Dr. Thompson had a clinical practice at the Our Kids Center in Nashville, Tenn. She was also a teaching instructor in the Department of Pediatrics of the Division of General Pediatrics at Vanderbilt University. Here she conducted more than 1,300 interviews with children who were alleged to be abused, interviewed more than 3.000 caretakers for purposes of medical diagnosis and treatment, conducted psychosocial evaluations for children when there were concerns of sexual abuse, prepared children for their medical examination, provided information and referral services to service users, provided expert testimony for criminal and family court proceedings, co-developed and implemented a child sexual abuse education program for medical providers who were currently practicing in the forensic field and educated Vanderbilt Medical Center residents and medical providers on interviewing skills and child abuse dynamics.

Dr. Thompson's publications include: “Community and Mental Health Support of Juvenile Prostitute Victims,” Medical and Legal Aspects of Child Sexual Exploitation; "History and Interview." Nursing Approach to the Evaluation of Child Maltreatment; and The Our Kids Medical Evaluation: A Multidisciplinary Approach to Child Sexual Abuse, sponsored by American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, Council of Social Work Education and the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children.
