OLLU featured in Blue Star exhibit through Sunday

"Fire in the Belly:
An Undergraduate Art Survey"
 Through Aug. 15, 2010
Blue Star_Lab, 114 Broadway
The OLLU Visual Arts department will be featured in the first exhibit in the Blue Star Contemporary Art Center's newest venue, Blue Star_Lab.

The exhibition, “Fire in the Belly: Undergraduate Art Survey,” opens tonight as part of the official opening of Blue Star_Lab, an annex of the Blue Star Contemporary Art Center. The opening starts at 6 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The Blue Star_Lab is located downtown at 114 Broadway. The exhibit continues through August 15.

OLLU was excited to learn earlier this spring that the Visual Arts department had been juried into this exhibit at one of the city’s premier venues for contemporary art. The artists representing OLLU are a combination of current, deployed in Iraq and recent alumni.  In addition to individual artists' work, OLLU's innovative and eye-catching VW and van (pictured) will be on display.

The Blue Star_Lab will allow for expanded exhibitions from the Blue Star Main Campus, as well as the promotion of experimental work, according to Blue Star's website.

OLLU artists to be featured include:

  • Elizabeth Rodriguez (one monumental work)
  • Joseph Longoria (two works)
  •  Joseph Longoria, Felicia Gomez, Andres Colon, Robert Poschmann, Vidoni Colon, Rebecca Green, Lacey Griffith, Mark Aguilar, Chris Burrell (team of artists who worked on the van)
  • Roxanna Chavez, Mark Aguilar, Norma Cavazos, Victor Villareal, Fernando Benavidez, Priscilla Dominguez, Cecelia Santos, Krystal Munoz (team for the VW)
