In the Spring of 2008, because of our growth in the number of programs, we changed our name from the Department of Sociology to the Department of Applied Social and Cultural Sciences (ASCS). As the new name suggests, we are a department that strikes a balance between research and practice by emphasizing the application of what we know to problem solving in the community.
