Background:
Yvette Benavides is an associate professor of English at Our Lady of the Lake University, where she teaches composition, literature, creative writing and Mexican-American literature. Benavides has had her poetry published in journals such as The Americas Review, Texas Observer, Langdon Review of the Arts in Texas, and Mothering magazine, among others. Her articles have appeared in the San Antonio Express-News and Latina magazine. She is also a regular book critic for the San Antonio Express-News. Benavides is co-host and co-producer of Texas Matters and has been a frequent contributor for NPR's Latino USA. She is currently enrolled in an online MFA program in creative writing at the University of Texas at El Paso.
