These are some of the scholarships that you can apply for getting additional resources for funding your study abroad program: 

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by the Institute of International Education, this program enables students who have limited financial means to participate in study abroad opportunities worldwide. The program provides awards of up to $5,000 for U.S citizen undergraduate students at two- and four- year intuitions to pursue semester or academic-year long study abroad opportunities in other countries. To be eligible students must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant at the time of application and cannot be studying abroad in a country currently under a U.S. Department of State Travel Warning . The Institute of International Education (IIE) an independent non-profit organization, is a world leader in the exchange of people and ideas. IIE administers over 200 programs serving more than 20,000 individuals each year. IIE administers the Fulbright Program and the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program on behalf of the U.S. Department of State, and the National Security Education Program David L. Boren Scholarships and Fellowships. Find out more at:

The National Security Education Program (NSEP) offers a significant number of merit based scholarships, intended primarily to support the development of expertise in less commonly taught languages, cultures and areas important to U.S. national security (i.e. excluding Western Europe, Canada New Zealand and Australia). The goal of NSEP is to increase international opportunities for U.S citizens enrolled in institutions of higher education at either the undergraduate or graduate level. Awards up to $20,000 per year. Critical Language Scholarships for Intensive Summer Institutes sponsored by the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by the Council of American Overseas Research Centers(CAORC), the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program will offer intensive summer language institutes overseas in different countries. The CLS Program provides fully-funded seven to ten week group-based intensive language instruction and extensive cultural enrichment experiences held overseas at the beginning, intermediate and advanced levels. The Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships are awarded each year by the Rotary clubs all around the world. They enable students to spend an academic year studying abroad in a country, which there are Rotary clubs. Rotary International is seeking students with strong academic records who would benefit personally, professionally, and academically from studying overseas. Applicants should have strong leadership skills, be interested in service, and make good “international ambassadors.” You need to start early for this application process (freshman year) as it takes time. The Bridging Scholarship is for U.S students studying in Japan. Undergraduates majoring in any field of study are eligible to apply for this scholarship; Japanese language background is not a requirement.
