INTERLIBRARY LOAN

IT Infrastructures Services is specifying Thursday mornings from 3 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. each week as a scheduled maintenance window.  This time slot will be used to perform routine updates and patches on servers and other network systems as needed to keep systems operating securely and efficiently.

There may be interruptions in Interlibrary Loan during those maintenance time slots each week. If users run into any problems with their ILL requests, please call the circulation desk at 210-431-3923.

 

 

Who has Interlibrary Loan Privileges:
Interlibrary Loan priviledges are open to all currently enrolled OLLU students, OLLU faculty and OLLU staff as well as members of the CDP.

All borrowers must be in good standing in order to use the Sueltenfuss Library's Interlibrary Loan service. Anyone with fines over the $10 limit noted in our Circulation Policies will be asked to make a payment to reduce or remove the fines owed before requests will be processed.
Interlibrary Loan Requesting Hints:

First, check the library catalog to see if the item is available in our collection.

Provide as much information as possible to assist the lending institution in your search for your request. Incomplete or incorrect citations will delay the processing of your request. Important citations include:

Books: correct title and author, edition or year, publisher, and ISBN
Articles: correct journal title, article title, author, volume, issue, date, page number, ISSN

Students requesting materials from Dissertation Abstracts should request dissertations as if they were requesting a book.

Materials Available through Interlibrary Loan:
- Books not owned or currently unavailable at the Sueltenfuss Library
- Select Government Documents
- Journal articles (or book chapters) not held by the Sueltenfuss Library
Requesting Dissertations:
Due to the limited number of available copies, many lending institutions do not circulate dissertations to other libraries. Some lending institutions also charge (between $20 to $30) to loan dissertations. Dissertations unavailable through Interlibrary Loan can be purchased online through UMI's Dissertation Express.
Requesting Media/Audiovisual Materials:
Media/Audiovisual materials include DVD's, CD's, VHS tapes, books on tape, filmstrips, & CD-Roms. Though we will process your request, it is important that patrons be aware that many lending institutions do not lend media items to other libraries.
Materials Not Available through Interlibrary Loan:
- Books and journals currently available at the Sueltenfuss Library
- Rare books
- Entire volumes of journals
- Scans of an entire journal issue or book
Interlibrary Loan Fees and Fines:
There is no fee for most Interlibrary Loan transactions. Some lending institutions do charge between $15 to $20 (or higher) for the loaning of books and copying of articles. If a fee is required, patrons will have the choice of paying the fee or cancelling the request. No fee will be charges until after contact is made between the patron and ILL staff.

Fines of 25 cents per day will be charged on all Interlibrary Loan books returned late.

Interlibrary Loan services will be suspended if a patron has overdue OLLU materials, fines over the $10 limit in circulation, or has fines or overdues Interlibrary Loan materials.

Fees associated with the loss or damage to Interlibrary Loan books are the responsibility of the patron. The Sueltenfuss Library staff requests an invoice for any charges assessed by the lending library. The average fee for lost Interlibrary Loan material is $75.00 per item.
Interlibrary Loan Arrival Time:
On average, most materials take at least five to seven business days to arrive. This time frame is an estimation based on previous ILL arrivals at Sueltenfuss Library and not a guarantee. Patrons needing a document in a shorter time period may want to consider utilizing our online Databases to search for full text articles or using a TexShare Card to obtain books through other local libraries.

Houston patrons: Processing and transit time takes an additional three days
Checking the Status of Interlibrary Loan Requests:
All borrowers will be called or notified by email as each item arrives.

Delivery of Interlibrary Loan Materials:
Books & Videos:
San Antonio patrons can retrieve all books and videos from the Library Checkout Desk during regular library hours.

Houston Patrons:
Books and videos will be mailed to the address provided in the initial Interlibrary Loan request.

Articles & Chapters:
Patrons will be notified by email when their articles have arrived. Emails will either include the article in PDF format or will include instructions on how to view their article. 
Borrowing Time Length & Returning Materials
Books and other materials loaned to patrons are allowed to be kept, on average, between two to four weeks, depending on the lending institution's loan policy. Due dates are always posted on books and it is the patron's responsibility to turn these items in on time. Books obtained via Interlibrary Loan should be dropped off only at the Circulation Desk on or before the due date. Articles do not need to be returned to the Library.

Houston Patrons:
All items should be returned to the Sueltenfuss Library in a well secured package. A postage-paid OLLU Library mailing label will be provided for the return shipment. Borrowers will be charged for damaged or lost Interlibrary Loan materials due to poor packaging.
Interllibrary Loan Renewals:
Renewals can sometimes be allowed by the lending institution. However, renewals must be requested before the due date. Requests for renewals on your ILL book can be made by contacting Vanessa Meador, Daytime Circulation Supervisor at x2325 or by emailing OLLUILL@lake.ollusa.edu
