CIRCULATION POLICIES

 Fines

ID Cards:
Current OLLU students, staff, faculty, and alumni need an OLLU ID Card to borrow materials from the Sueltenfuss Library.
OLLU Sisters (CDP), TexShare, and Community Users need a blue OLLU Library card to check out materials. The blue card is issued at the check out desk at Sueltenfuss Library.
OLLU ID cards are not transferable. ID card holders are responsible for all materials checked out with their card.
Circulating and Non-Circulating Materials:
  • Books from the general collection circulate to all registered borrowers.
  • Materials on reserve have restricted circulation periods and a different fine schedule. Overdue fines for books and videos placed on reserve are accrued at a rate of $0.25 per hour ($10.00 maximum).
  • Reference books and bound journals circulate only to OLLU faculty for three days.
  • Current journals and newspapers do not circulate.

Recalls:
Books that are recalled must be returned to the check out desk in a timely manner.
Materials needed for course reserves are subject to immediate recall.
Renewals:
Books can be brought into the library for renewal, or they may be renewed over the phone. The number for renewing books is (210) 434-6711 ext. 2325, or 1-800-846-4085
Renewals must be placed on or before the due date.
Materials that have a hold on them or have been recalled cannot be renewed.
Refer to the Loan Period section for specific number of renewals allowed.
Holds:
Books checked out to another borrower may be placed on hold by another OLLU borrower.
Holds may not be placed on media.
Searches:
OLLU library users may request that the circulation staff search for materials that cannot be located in the library. If found, the materials will be held at the check out desk and notification will be sent to the requestor.
Items located by the staff will be held at the check out desk for a period of 3 days.
Returning Materials:
Books can be returned to the check out desk drop-chute located on the 2nd floor or the outside drop box located on the south side of the library. Should the library be closed, only the outside drop box will be available for returns.
Media materials should never be placed in the outside book drop.

Overdue & Lost Items:
Books:
Overdue..$.25 per day ($10.00 maximum) Lost..$10.00 processing fee plus the price of the item
Media (VHS, DVD, CD, LP):
Overdue...$1.00 per day ($10.00 maximum) Lost..$10.00 processing fee plus the price of the item
Borrowing privileges for all OLLU students are suspended and registration, transfer of credits, grades, and graduation may be blocked until all fines are paid.
Overdue, lost, and recall notices are sent as a courtesy to remind borrowers that an item should be returned. However, failure to receive a notice does not absolve the borrower of the responsibility to return the item to the library in a timely manner.
Borrowing privileges for all OLLU students are suspended with 5 overdue books or an accumulation of $10.00 in fines.
Borrowing privileges for OLLU Alumni, Community, and TexShare users are suspended with 1 overdue book or an accumulation of $1.00 in fines.
Fines and lost items can be paid with cash, check, or money order. Credit card payment cannot be accepted. Users who have previously written delinquent checks to the library are not allowed to make payment by checks and can only pay by cash or money order.
Exceptions to these library circulation policies may be granted on a case-by-case basis if need is demonstrated. Only the circulation manager or an OLLU librarian has the authority to remove fines from a borrowers account.
Lost & Found:
All lost items found in the Sueltenfuss Library are kept at the check out desk. Sueltenfuss library users must identify the lost item and a staff member will retrieve the item from the lost & found shelf. At the end of each month all items are turned over to campus police.
