ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT   

The OLLU Police Department consists of:    

  • Chief of Police,
  • Lieutenant,
  • Three Shift Sergeants,
  • 9 Police Officers,
  • Non-Commissioned Administrative Clerk,
  • The officers are dispatched during business hours by a non-commissioned student employee 

The University Police Department is responsible for law enforcement, security and emergency response at the San Antonio Campus. The University Police Officers are on duty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and is staffed by commissioned Texas peace officers and supported by civilian personnel. The statutory authority for the existence of OLLU Police Department and each University Police Officer is derived through legislative action and defined Article 2.12 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure and Article 51.203 of the Texas Education Code. The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standard and Education licenses all University Police Officers. OLLU Police Department has concurrent jurisdiction with the San Antonio Police Department, Bexar County Sheriff's Office and Bexar County Precinct 1, within whose jurisdiction the University is physically located.

The University recognizes that laws and rules are necessary for society to function and supports the enforcement of law by governmental agencies and rules by officials of the University. All persons on the campus are subject to these laws and rules at all times. While the University is private property, and Constitutional protections apply, law enforcement officers may enter the campus to conduct business as needed. Additionally, the officers are invited to patrol the campus to assist University Police in deterring crime and to share information. All law enforcement agencies are asked to check in with University Police when on campus. University Police is recognized by the State of Texas as a law enforcement agency.

University Police is notified of all serous crime on campus, and is immediately notified of major crimes via the telephone or two-way radio. UPD relies on the telephone or two-way radio to contact the appropriate emergency services. 

OLLU Police Department has concurrent jurisdiction with the San Antonio Police Department, Bexar County Sheriff's Office and Bexar County Precinct 1. University Police personnel also work closely with the San Antonio Police Department, Bexar County Sheriff's Office, Bexar County District Attorney, adjacent school district police departments, and all Federal Agencies. This cooperative team approach addresses situations on and off campus as they arise, as well as any future concerns.
