FALL 2013 ISSUE
Message from Family Relations Coordinator,
Alma C.Bustillo, MS
Greetings OLLU Families,
As we come to the end of the 2013 fall semester, there is much to reflect on and feel proud of. There have been many wonderful happenings on the OLLU campus and our students have accomplished many tasks in a short period of time. Throughout the semester, students have participated and done extremely well in sporting events, theater productions, service projects and continuing OLLU traditions and celebrations, such as honoring our veterans on Veterans Day, attending Las Posadas and Candlelight, to name a few. They survived mid-term exams and have overcome challenges such as homesickness, time-management and class projects. We are very proud of ALL of our students!
Two of the greatest accomplishments for the Family Relations Office this semester have been Family Weekend and the Family Legacy Brick Campaign. Family Weekend hosted more than 300 students and their families, a new attendance record and included a waffle breakfast, men’s basketball game, a family luncheon, a music showcase and a family blessing. The Family Legacy Campaign is new to OLLU and kicked off in spring 2013. During new student orientation, families were provided the opportunity to purchase a family legacy brick for $100 in honor of a family member, student and/or the passing of a loved one. These bricks have been permanently placed in a special area designated for our families in the St. Anthony Courtyard; proceeds from brick sales support the Lake Fund for student scholarships. A ribbon cutting and special blessing of the family legacy bricks was celebrated during Family Weekend. If you are interested in purchasing a family legacy brick and becoming a permanent part of the OLLU campus, please visit the Family Relations page and select the Family Legacy link to order a brick online.
Finally, I would like to congratulate our fall graduates and their families. You have made the OLLU community very proud and there is always a place for you here on campus. Best of luck to all of you!
