Higher Education Institute

Friday, April 5, 2013

A major challenge for our nation's higher education community is improving its capacity to graduate a growing number of Latino and first-generation college students. This year's conference and professional development institute is focused on the questions of institutional and student cultures. We consider the cultural richness brought to our campuses by our students, staffs and faculties as an untapped resource for meeting the educational challenges for students whose cultural experiences differ dramatically from the culture of higher education. How can these cultures intersect and integrate in ways that result in more graduates of our institutions? We also consider what is needed to produce more culturally competent graduates prepared to succeed in intercultural and global contexts. This institute is targeted to faculty and staff in higher education, particularly in HSIs and emerging HSIs as a professional development experience.

*All presentations will take place in Providence Hall, West Social Room
