Scholarships and Assistantships

Health and Human Services Scholarships
Scholarships are funded through a grant to Our Lady of the Lake University from the federal office of Health and Human Services for students from low income or economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Scholarships available are subject to continuing funding (amount varies annually). 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Enrolled as full-time graduate student.
  • Proof of U.S. citizen or a permanent resident.
  • Evidence of student's parental income to determining disadvantaged status based on the economically disadvantaged definition. (Regardless of age, independent/dependent or marital status, Title VII programs require parental income information for calculating the amount of a student's financial need.)
  • The scholarship is awarded to disadvantaged students with demonstrated financial need.

Baptist Health Foundation Scholarships
These scholarships are awarded by the Baptist Health Foundation to students who plan to pursue a career in health care and have a strong record of volunteer activity.

Zachry Scholarship
Through the generosity of the H.B. Zachry Foundation two $2,500 scholarships are available for Worden School MSW students. To be eligible for these scholarships, students must meet the following criteria:

Eligibility Requirements: 

  • Already be admitted to the MSW Program.
  • Good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Students who meet the above criteria must submit a 4-5 page paper addressing the mission of the Worden School as it relates to "working with victims of institutional oppression such as people who are poor, women, and people who are elderly.

Elizabeth Schaller Holland Endowed Scholarship

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Newly admitted to the MSW program.
  • Evidence of financial need.
  • Completed application, writing sample, and resume
  • An application my be obtained from the Worden School of Social Service Business Office or online from the Worden School Graduate Admission Requirements web page.

Sister Frances Jerome Woods Endowed Social Work Scholarship
(amount varies annually with a minimum of $1,000.) This scholarship was established to honor Sister Jerome Woods. Sister Woods was a highly respected social work and sociology faculty member at Our Lady of the Lake University. 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be an undergraduate or graduate student in the Worden School of Social Service.
  • May be newly admitted to the program or a continuing student in the program.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 for graduate students and for undergraduate students a GPA of 3.2.
  • Demonstrate financial need by qualifying for financial assistance from Our Lady of the Lake University.
  • Complete an application that may be obtained from the Worden School of Social Service Business Office or online from the Worden School Graduate Admission Requirements web page.

Carl M Zimmer Graduate Social Work Scholarship
(amount varies annually with a minimum of $1,000.) This scholarship was established to honor a well-loved and respected member of the Worden School faculty who served for over twenty years in a variety of positions including Dean and Associate Dean.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be a newly admitted graduate student in the Worden School of Social Service MSW Program. Students must have a GPA of 3.5 in undergraduate social work courses.
  • Be enrolled full-time in graduate studies.
  • No application is required. Selection will be made by the Worden School Scholarship Committee based on quality of content and writing in personal statement submitted with appplication for admission.

Graduate Assistantships
As Graduate Assistants, graduate students spend 12 hours weekly working with social work faculty in the BSW Program, the MSW Program, and the Field Education Office. All graduate students are eligible to apply from the time they are accepted for admission. To apply, individuals must:

  • Be a full-time graduate student enrolled inthe Worden School MSW Program.
  • Submit a Worden School of Social Service Graduate Assistant Application Form that may be obtained from the Worden School of Social Service Business Office or online from the Worden School Graduate Admission Requirements web page.
  • Submit a Letter of Interest.
  • Submit a Professional Resume.

Field Education Stipends
The human service agencies that provide stipends to students who are completing their field education placements vary annually. Contact the Director of the Worden School of Social Service Field Education Office for information regarding available stipends. 

Loan Forgiveness
The
Social Work Reinvestment Initiative: Loan Forgiveness for Social Workers in the College Cost Reduction Act of 2007 provides loan forgiveness to social workers in a public child or family service agency after 10 years of service.
