In 2008, Our Lady of the Lake University embraced an innovative initiative to impact the lives of students, their families, and their communities by sponsoring College Conexiόn – a unique and award-winning college readiness program. College Conexiόn, led by longtime educator Kay Stanson, is a dedicated partnership between OLLU, San Antonio area high schools and the community, to provide equal opportunity for all students to access a postsecondary education.
Understanding that content knowledge is important, this initiative provides other critical elements which are often overlooked but are necessary for college readiness:
- Critical Thinking
- Time Management
- Access To College Resources
- Social Development
College Conexiόn is a research-driven program that takes a unique approach to more effectively reach first generation, economically disadvantaged, at-risk Latino population in San Antonio. Research shows that the emotional health of the student must be in place before cognitive aspirations can be fulfilled.
College Conexiόn provides a balance between the physical, psychological, social and cognitive aspects of its students. As a result, students gain strategies and tools that increase their resiliency, enhance individual talents, and hone academic skills so they can meet the increased standards for college degree attainment and skills needed to succeed in the 21st century workforce.
