Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication

OLLU's Mass Communication department prepares students for professions in film, television, journalism, and public relations, as well as for admission into graduate programs. While not forgetting the fundamentals of old media, the program focuses on new media usage, preparing students for the multi-media landscape they will face. The program provides students with hands-on experience in writing, directing, producing, digital editing, print editing, web publishing, and more, preparing students for internships and jobs.

Students have the choice of three concentrations:

Mass Communication students gain real-life training through on-campus practicums and off-campus internships. Internship placements have included the San Antonio Express-News, 210SA,, Institute of Texan Cultures, and the Witte Museum along with many other news outlets across San Antonio. Additionally, students in the Multimedia Journalism and Public Relations concentrations have the opportunity to work for "The Lake Front," OLLU's student newspaper, and KLFN, the campus TV news station. Students in the Digital Film and Multimedia Production concentration have the opportunity to showcase the films they write and direct in the annual 24th Street Film Festival.

Lambda Pi Eta

The Mass Communication program also sponsors Lambda Pi Eta, the National Communication Association's official honor society at four-year colleges and universities.
