OLLU offers two specializations in the Master of Science in Psychology program:
Both specializations are offered on the San Antonio campus; the MFT specialization is also offered on the Houston campus. San Antonio students complete a portion of their practica requirements at the department's training clinic, the Community Counseling Service. Houston students complete their practica requirements at Houston area clinics and agencies.
Psychology Certificate Programs
Psychological Services for Spanish Speaking Populations Certificate
The goal of the Psychological Services for Spanish Speaking Populations (PSSSP) program is to produce mental health practitioners who are equally competent to provide services in English and Spanish. Core courses are taught in Spanish or bilingually and students have the option of taking a language and cultural immersion course taught in a Spanish speaking country. PSSSP students will also receive supervision in Spanish of their praticum work with Spanish speaking clients.
Assessment Specialty in Autism Certificate
The Assessment Specialty in Autism Certificate program focuses on assessment and behavior interventions for students with autism. It is an optional certificate for students in the MS in Psychology: School Psychology concentration. Students will be able to finish their degree program and the Autism certificate program in three years if they take 12 semester hours in two of their nine semesters of coursework.
Students in the psychology program benefit from the Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) Competency and Dissemination project, a collaborative project between the Psychology and Social Work programs at OLLU. SBIRT serves as an early intervention for individuals struggling with substance abuse and those at risk of developing substance abuse disorders. SBIRT curricula is integrated into programs at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels. Read more about the SBIRT program at OLLU.
